Day 2: Delhi

We started our day eating dosas and swimming on our rooftop pool with a spectacular 360° view of Delhi.

Our first stop with our guides was the National Museum.  It is very large and houses a wide array of collections from sacred prehistoric artifacts to modern works.  You will see a picture of Spencer with the Hindu god Ganesha.

Next, as Delhi is the capital of India, we saw political and government buildings including the prime minister's home, the parliament building, several foreign offices and embassies, and the president's residential complex.  Because there are many preparations for the upcoming Indian Indepence Day celebration (8/15), there was a great deal of security personnel and limited access.

Next we stopped at the India Gate (pictured), a beautiful war memorial with names of fallen soldiers etched into it and an eternal flame.

We ate a traditional Indian lunch and the boys especially enjoyed a mango lassi and garlic naan.

Finally we visited Humayun's Tomb (pictured).  This is a massive and beautiful structure built for the Mughal emperor.  There are several buildings and gardens that make up this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

So far we have seen no sign of monsoon season.  We are very thankful and hope to keep our ponchos in our luggage again tomorrow as we have another busy day of sightseeing planned.  The boys are really enjoying themselves although Jayden is definitely missing his cell phone =).

We will update again tomorrow.  Thanks for keeping up with our adventures!
